Cake Wrecks

July seems to have gotten by me before I could write much here (mostly because I'm a slacker), but I thought I'd finish off the month by introducing you to a most amazing blog -- Cake Wrecks.

The blog's description/subtitle is "When professional cakes go horribly, hilariously wrong" and I'll tell you, they certainly get that right. It's a whole blog full of train wrecks -- only in cake form!

I actually quite like this cake. An Acid Cake -- faaaarrr ooouuttt, maaaannn!

And a link to the post of this cake.

bored on break?

Lately I've been hearing a lot of kids (I think of college students as kids too) say they are bored when they are on break for more than a week or two. I've heard it sometimes from adults when they are off work too, but less often.

Is this normal?

The first few times I heard kids say it I just thought they were crazy, but now I've heard it so many times I'm starting to wonder if it's just me who's odd. I don't remember ever being bored when I was on break from school (or from work for that matter). It wasn't that I had so many places to go or so many friends I hung out with, because I didn't. I lived in a rural area and only occasionally had friends over or went anywhere (other than grocery store, etc), but we lived on a small farm so I had woods, and streams, and fields, and horses, and cats, and dogs. Plus we had books, and music and art supplies.

Maybe it's just that I am and have always been a loner, but I can almost always entertain myself. I've never really needed to go places or have a lot of contact with people -- actually I can get mighty cranky if I don't have my alone time. Plus I'm not real fond of group activities, structured days, and authority, so I've always chafed in most school and work situations.

Cotton Keays Morris - The Real Thing

This is the Russell Morris song SK and TP played on at the ARIA HOF induction ceremony. I like this version a lot. I can certainly see why SK likes the song.

ugh

I've been sick as a dog for the past couple of days. Late Sunday night I started feeling queasy while I was working on a piece of glass I had to finish up so I could take it in to the shop Monday (special order for a guy who bought it Friday). So I just finish up the glass when all of a sudden WHAM! I get smacked by a nasty stomach bug. I'll spare you the gory details -- and they are gory indeed, I must say -- but I have been one very miserable blob lately.

I couldn't even get poor Diane to bed until mid-afternoon Monday because I simply couldn't move. Luckily she has a comfy chair in the living room and did quite well...but she was really happy to finally get to bed! Wasn't able to feed the cats either -- I do have dry food out all the time, but poor toothless Loki was starting to wonder if he was ever going to eat again (I'm wondering that about myself now too, although it probably wouldn't hurt much if I laid off the food for a while...). Several of the cats thought me being sick was great (except for the lack of food part that is) because they could hang out in bed (when I wasn't in the bathroom) all day and night long. Loki especially was quite the snugglebunny although now that I think about it I'm not sure it's because he loves me so much or if he was just making sure he'd get fed first when I finally got the hell up!

I'm starting to feel like I'm gonna live, but I ache all over. Trust me on this -- laughing, especially after puking for hours on end, is no damned fun.
